What is Hannah House? |
Hannah House, is a non-profit organization located in North Philadelphia, which assists women connected with the criminal justice system and helps them break the cycle of addiction and incarceration in their lives.
Hannah House was established in 1982 as a Pennsylvania non-profit organization under the direction of a volunteer Board of Directors. In the past twenty years, Hannah House has grown from a completely volunteer organiztion operation with a very small annual budge to a transitional housing, drug and alcohol program that can serve 32 women at one time.
Hannah House has worked diligently to develop programs and provide an enviroment that enables our women to effect real change in their lives. Hannah house addresses on a practical level the underlying social justice issues that acause these self-destructive behaviors: poverty, crime, drugs, lack of education, poor self-esteem, abuse and abandoment issues.
Education, job readiness training, outpatient counseling, addictions counseling, fiscal management skills, medical and legal assistance and personal growth classes are all part of the program. Graduates of the Hannah House leave the program with 50% of all that they have earned during their stay at Hannah House. This ensures that the women are financially stable as they transition back into the community and has even allowed some women to purchase their own homes. |
